For education and visit preparation; individual assessment requires a clinical history and examination.
What does VAAFT involve?
Video-assisted anal fistula treatment uses a small scope inside the tract to visualise and treat it. Identifying the tract is one step; the plan for the internal opening remains important.
Does the device suit every fistula?
Selection still depends on the internal opening, branches, collections, prior repairs and continence. Long-term outcome evidence is limited, so a minimally invasive description should not be read as a promise of lasting closure.
Clarify the full operation
Ask how the scope will be used, how the opening will be closed, and what happens if access is difficult or the fistula returns. Discuss alternatives that fit your anatomy, including LIFT or a flap where appropriate.
Questions for your appointment
- What will the scope add in my case?
- How will healing and recurrence be assessed?
