Short answer
Recurrence after fistula surgery does not automatically mean repeating the same operation. The current anatomy, previous procedures, continence function and secondary extensions matter.
What changes the interpretation?
- Procedure type and date.
- Whether a seton or open wound is present.
- Whether symptoms are improving or escalating.
- Fever, new swelling, concerning bleeding or new continence change.
- Examination or imaging findings when available.
What to bring for review
Operation note, relevant MRI/endoscopy reports, a short symptom timeline and important medicines/conditions. In recurrent disease this is more useful than trying to reconstruct details from memory during the visit.
