MRI FISTULA DECODER

Fistula MRI Decoder

Understand the terms that change the fistula map before focusing on the name of an operation.

Important: This content is for education and information organisation; it does not provide an individual diagnosis or treatment plan. Clinical decisions depend on history, examination and appropriate testing.

Paste your fistula MRI report text

This browser-only step spots selected terms. It does not send the text or produce a diagnosis.

The tool detects selected words only and does not replace radiology interpretation or surgical examination.

What matters in a fistula MRI report?

A useful report goes beyond the word “fistula”. It maps the number of tracts, relationship to the sphincter complex, internal opening, secondary extensions or collections, sphincter integrity and comparison with prior imaging when available.

Report dictionary

Internal opening on fistula MRI: what does it mean? The internal opening is where the fistula tract communicates with the anal canal. Accurate location helps map the anatomy, but does not by itself determine the operation.Secondary tract on fistula MRI: what does it mean?A secondary tract is an additional branch from the primary fistula pathway. It can matter when explaining persistent drainage or recurrence if the anatomy is incompletely mapped.Horseshoe extension on fistula MRIA horseshoe extension describes semilunar spread across two or more adjacent quadrants. A useful report states its level, location and relationship to the sphincter complex.Supralevator extension on fistula MRISupralevator extension means sepsis or a tract reaches a compartment above the levator level. It changes anatomical complexity and calls for careful planning.Abscess or collection on fistula MRIAn abscess or collection indicates a fluid or infected cavity related to sepsis. Size, location and clinical symptoms determine urgency—not the word alone.Parks classification for anal fistulaParks classification describes the tract in relation to the sphincter muscles, including intersphincteric and transsphincteric patterns. It provides a common anatomical language for radiologists and surgeons.Sphincter integrity on fistula MRIIntegrity of the internal and external sphincters matters particularly after previous surgery. A pre-existing defect can change the balance between fistula treatment and preservation of continence.Seton on fistula MRIA seton is a thread placed through a fistula, often for drainage or as part of staged management. Its presence on MRI does not by itself establish healing or activity.

How to use this well

  1. Paste text after removing identifiers where possible.
  2. Open explanations for detected terms.
  3. For recurrent disease, gather prior operation notes and MRI reports.
  4. Use the second-opinion dossier to organise the timeline rather than sending disconnected screenshots.
