For education and visit preparation; individual assessment requires a clinical history and examination.
Follow the direction of recovery
Pain with bowel movements, spotting and swelling can occur after haemorrhoidectomy. Track whether symptoms improve over time and how prescribed pain relief is working.
Bowel and wound care
Use the pain-relief and stool-softening plan supplied at discharge and avoid straining. Ask your team before adding suppositories or enemas. Clarify the wound-care instructions if the procedure or dressing plan is unclear.
When to seek help
Seek urgent assessment for heavy or persistent bleeding, faintness, inability to pass urine, or worsening pain with fever. Contact your team when pain is not controlled or new symptoms appear.
Returning to activities
Work, driving and exercise depend on the operation, comfort and medicines. Obtain individual instructions and keep your follow-up date and contact details accessible.
