Muscle appearance versus function
MRI may describe continuity, scarring or a defect. Appearance alone does not measure continence. Leakage, previous operations and childbirth history provide context; functional assessment may add information.
How can I use the phrase at my visit?
Ask the clinician to show it on the images and explain its effect on the plan. Bring the full report, images and last operation date. Explaining one term is not interpreting the whole scan.
What can the report not decide alone?
Urgency also depends on symptoms and examination. Increasing pain with fever or swelling needs urgent assessment rather than waiting for a routine imaging review.
